Russia's exports of softwood to Europe have grown significantly

According to foreign media reports, in the second quarter of 2021, the growth rate of Russia's softwood exports to relevant European purchasing countries was higher than that of the same period last year.

According to the Russian customs authorities:

① Shipment to Estonia increased by 62%, reaching 272,762 cubic meters;

② Shipments to Germany increased by 32% to 230,653 cubic meters;

③ Shipments to Finland increased by 12% to 181,337 cubic meters;

④ Shipments to the UK increased by 65% to 149,351 cubic meters;

⑤ Shipments to the Netherlands increased by 43%; reaching 123799 cubic meters.

For the above-mentioned countries, the export volume has shown double-digit growth. The volume of softwood exported to the 11 most important purchasing countries in Europe reached 1.396 million cubic meters, an increase of 53%. Exports to the six republics of Central Asia increased by a third to 1.457 million cubic meters. In contrast, deliveries to China fell by 11 percentage points to 4.668 million cubic meters. The proportion of total exports fell by 12 percentage points to 56%.

During the April-June period of 2021, Russia exported a total of 8.935 million cubic meters of softwood, with an export value of 1.643 billion U.S. dollars. Although the export volume has increased by 8%, the export value has soared by 50%. However, this increase can only partially compensate for the 13% decline in the first quarter. In the first six months of this year, the cumulative export volume was 14.911 million cubic meters, a decrease of 2 percentage points from the same period last year. The export value increased by 30%, reaching 2.607 billion US dollars.

Of the total exports, 7.891 million cubic meters were sold to Chinese customers, a year-on-year decrease of 12%. Shipments to Japan also decreased by 19% to 415,620 cubic meters. Exports to Central Asian countries increased by 3% (24,360 cubic meters) to 2.368 million cubic meters. Exports to Europe’s most important importing country increased by 38% to 2.395 million cubic meters.
